Aston Lodge Primary School

 Year 3

Teacher: Mrs Killip

Teaching Assistant: Mrs Fields

Welcome back!

Due to unforeseen circumstances, there has been a change to the timetable. Instead of swimming on a Monday, there will be PE on a Tuesday. This will be for the term. Please can you ensure that the children have outdoor kit (including a warm jumper, joggers and trainers). As where ever possible, we will try to go outside for PE lessons.

This half term Year 3 will be learning about:

English: The children will be  learning how to write persuasive letter. They will also be studying explanation texts.

Maths: They will be learning about measures, subtraction and statistics.

PE: They will be studying rounders and cricket.

Topic: This half term we will be answering the question:

Would Winnie the Pooh survive without honey?

For our core story we will be reading at Winnie the Pooh.

We will also be looking at the role of bees and how they are useful to flowers.

Also, we will be studying the function of a plant; the life cycle of flowering plants and what they need to grow.

This will all contribute to an end product (this will be decided by the children through the topic).

Art: We will be looking at different artists and their representations of flowers.

French: This will be continuing with a Modern Foreign Languages teacher.

Topics for the rest of the year

Flinstones – A historical study based on the Stone Age.

Where we live- A geographical study looking at the area around us.

Rotten Romans – A historical study on the Romans and how they changed Britain.

 Things to remember

Reading:
The children will also be expected to be reading on a regular basis. Please can you sign their Homework Diaries every time they read.   Homework

Times Tables: These will be handed out on a Monday and the Times Tables Test will be on a Friday. The Tables Test will be written in their book in a random order, to ensure that the children can recall their tables in any order.

Spellings: A spelling lesson will be taught on the Monday and then spellings will be given according to that lesson. This means that the spellings will change every week. On Friday two further spellings (previously unseen) will be given along with the spellings they have already practised. The children have to use the taught rule to work out how to spell the unseen words along with the spellings they have been practising.
