Last week we all dressed up as a superstition in support of Children in Need. The children looked fantastic and we raised lots of money. Well done to Daisy who came dressed as a magpie, just like Mrs Stones, and won a Pudsey Bear for the best costume!

This half term we are going to become Dragonologists!  Welcome to the world of all things Dragon. We will be writing Dragon reports, learning Dragon poems, making Dragon models, collecting Dragon data and producing Dragon graphs.

Y4 Dragon

We will be building model Dragons, so start collecting cereal boxes, toilet roll holders, dried leaves, clean yoghurt pots, bottle tops and any other suitable materials you might have lying around the house.

Last term we really enjoyed reading 'The Iron Man' by Ted Hughes. The children produced some excellent work so we hope you enjoy these good examples (or WAGOLLS as we like to call them).

This term we will be reading another children's classic - Diary of a Killer Cat, which was written by the fantastic Anne Fine.

Don't forget that Year 4 are swimming on Monday afternoons with Mrs Lightfoot. So don't forget your trunks/costumes and a towel!

Toot Toot Wave!

Last term we travelled to Liverpool, Glasgow, Brighton, Belfast, Cardiff and Nottingham where we discovered famous landmarks and many interesting facts.

Our tour guides looked after their passengers superbly and looked the part wearing the Toot Toot Wave cap.

Watch this space for future tours, starting with Aberdeen on Friday. Let's hope we don't get snowed in...

We met the Wordies last term and they help us with our word groups.

Weekly times table tests will continue so please encourage your child to practice these. Every other Friday learn its are sent home (in homework books) again these need to be practised and learnt.


Other learning:

French: The children will continue their learning in French lessons, these take place every other week.

PE: Make sure PE kits are in school for Thursday (We will be going outside as often as possible so please make sure your child has warm kit and outdoor trainers/ pumps.Please can I encourage you to send your children with hats)

Swimming is every Monday so please ensure kit is here.

Homework: Children will be expected to practise their times tables and spellings on a weekly basis and will be tested on these every Thursday/Friday. 

Homework diaries also need to be signed and returned daily please.

Reading: Please continue to read with your child.

If your child has books at home which they wish to read please encourage this, some of them may even be on our accelerated reader system so they can quiz on them.


Take a quick look at our new school marking scheme. This will help your child really understand what they have done well and what needs to be improved in their work.

Sponsored Walk and Wear it Bright (34 images)

Children came to school dressed in bright clothes and learnt about road safety and making sure they are seen by cars. During the day each class took part in a sponsored walk. Some of us walked more than 4 miles!

Yorkshire Wildlife Park (17 images)

WOW! What an amazing day. We learnt lots of facts about animals. We saw baby tigers, ring tailed lemurs and wallabies. The children were excellent and we were really proud of ALL of them!

The Solar Eclipse (36 images)

Aston Lodge children created their own pin-hole viewers so that they could watch the eclipse safely. We went on to the playground and we were lucky enough to see it, were you?
