Aston Lodge Primary School

Welcome back! Hope you all had a lovely half-term holiday!

It is hard to believe we are now in the last part of the Summer term! We have a very busy term ahead.

Our topic this half-term is:-

*Seaside and Sea creatures

We will also be looking at aspects of life in Brazil as we look ahead to the Olympics in the summer.

In our first week we will be settling the children back in after the holidays, as well as welcoming Miss Churchard to our Foundation Stage team. We will be reinforcing routines and will discuss behaviour expectations.

We will introduce our new topic and use the book 'Commotion in the Ocean' as a starting point. We will learn about different creatures that live in the sea, and talk about what it is like at the seaside, drawing on the children's own experiences.  We will also be making sea creatures for our 'Under the sea' display. Our indoor role play will be a 'Seaside café/Ice-cream Parlour', and our outdoor role play area will be a 'Beach hut'

In Week 2 our story focus will be 'Sharing a shell'. We will continue to learn about sea creatures, and will create collages using shells, as well as sorting shells and making patterns with them. On Wednesday 15th June we are having an 'Under the sea' day when the children can come dressed in blue or green clothes.

In Weeks 3 and 4 our focus will be 'Rainbow Fish'. Many of the activities we do will link to this story. We will also be practising for our Sports day during these two weeks (Sports is on Friday 1st July), as well as having our whole school transition day (27th June).

During Weeks 5,6 and 7 we will be reading 'Smiley Shark' and our focus activities will link to this.

Alongside all of the above we will be continuing our 'Letters and Sounds' learning, numbers and counting, and preparing our older children for going to F2 in September.

Thank you in advance for all your support with your children's learning and our activities in nursery.

We have a very busy and exciting half term to look forward to!
